INFINITE FAMILY

I’ve been fortunate to meet many extraordinary people in my life—talented artists, writers, actors, producers, singers and musicians—yet each time I meet someone as passionate as Amy Stokes—I can’t help but look at my life and reevaluate what’s important. To many, fame and fortune seem to be the big prize most people aspire to, but to me what really matters is how we use our notoriety, our fame, our wealth and our contacts to help others. It doesn’t need to be a “cause celeb” that gets ones attention; it should be anyone that needs help—anything I can do, on my own or as part of an organization to help others gives me tremendous joy.

When I met Amy and heard about her crusade that started at a very personal level—I knew I had to get involved. Amy’s cause has spread to what will hopefully touch the lives of many and it all started when she and her husband adopted a beautiful boy from South Africa. What they saw first hand sparked a light in Amy’s heart—to help the almost two million children orphaned by HIV/Aids and poverty with no one to love and care for them, children with desperation on their faces for what many of us take for granted—a loving family to call their own.

Amy’s game changing mission is called Infinite Family and it provides mentors via a web-based platform to children. Each day after school until 6pm, children race with excitement to a computer lab where they’re connected with their net-buddy—a mentor/friend and a confidant to rely on every single week. It’s a 30-minute weekly commitment by a mentor that makes all the difference in the world to these kids. And when they’re not being mentored, the kids get to use the computers for their homework—learning vital computer skills along the way.

So please, get involved—at Infinite Family if you don’t have the ability to donate money, you can hopefully find 30 minutes a week to be a mentor.

Amy Stokes' Tips:

  • The Gift is You: To a child with few adult role models, a mentor is treasure trove of invaluable information – even the simplest piece of advice can be a guiding light in a child’s life.
  • Help build something new: “Children in need don’t have someone to listen to their fears, their dreams or even the details of their daily lives. Through Infinite Family, we can be that person and it matters.” Kelsey Kempter, Video Mentor.
  • Maximize your charitable impact: When you support a child, you help them become positive leaders among their peers and bring new information to their communities. This ripple effect creates real and lasting change.
  • The ‘right time’ is now: We all have a gift to give and it is different for each and every one of us, but there’s always a place that it can change a world today.
  • Reward yourself: Our video mentors say that the smiles, laughter and conversations they share with their Net Buddies are the highlight of their week!
